Wedding dress photos

I didn't mean to be away from blogging for so long but unsurprisingly the last few weeks have been very busy! There's lots to update you on but for today I'll start with the wedding!

Everything went pretty much to plan and the day itself was fabulous. We even had decent weather - and no rain! - so could go outside for photos.

The dress was gorgeous and even with a train that long, it hardly weighed a thing so hooked up easily for the evening. The fabric is a crushed taffeta with some lace detail. For anyone who's interested the dress is from Ellis Bridals, number 11012.
To keep out the November chills, I managed to sew myself not one but two jackets using Butterick 4731. I love this pattern as it went together so quickly and the neckline didn't detract from the detail on the dress.
My dress shop ordered extra taffeta which I used to make a long sleeved bolero for the daytime. I used View B with the long sleeves from View A and it took about half a day to complete. This actually ended up costing nothing as they gave us a small discount on the dress which covered the cost of the extra fabric, and the lining came from my stash. I gave the leftover scraps of fabric to the florist, who used them to bind the stems on my bouquet so that everything matched perfectly.I then found some scalloped-edge lace at Abakhan which I used to make a short sleeved jacket for the evening. The lace was £5.99/m and I used one metre. I made View B, but eliminated the lining, using french seams inside to keep everything neat. I cut the jacket with the shaped edge of the lace along the back and sleeve hem lines. I then enclosed the raw edges at the front and neckline using ribbon. I kinda winged it as I'd already sewn the first jacket and didn't feel under too much pressure but still I sewed it - start to finish - in about two hours. This is definitely a pattern I'll be using again!
