I've been thinking recently about ways to reinvigorate the blog. I want to spend more time on quality garments, which will probably mean more time between "finished object" posts but I don't want to let the blog lie dormant in the meantime. So I'm going to trial a new (to me) idea - WIP Wednesdays. I'll post photos and updates on a project which has a long way to go before becoming a finished object. And that couldn't be more true for my first WIP of 2012 as I decided to start a quilt! This is going to be a loooooooooooong project!
While watching "Limitless" last night, I started cutting fabric for a snowball block quilt - there are photos of the finished block and a tutorial here. I picked this design because it looked easy to sew and I thought it would be a good way to showcase some lovely fabrics. The photo above shows the colours I'm going to use for the centre of the snowballs, I also have a semi-solid dark purple for the corners and borders.
I decided to launch into a lap-sized quilt after seeing Craftsy's latest offering - a free "block of the month" class. If you are interested in quilting, definitely check it out here. I've signed up, although it looks like its probably not for complete beginners. I'm going to have a go at some of the more complex blocks using stash fabrics and leftovers from this quilt (hence the need to get it all cut out so I could see what leftovers I have!)
Oh how exciting! I noticed the Crafty quilt series, I am very tempted as have been interested in dipping my toes into quilting for some time. I'm a bit scared but these tutorials sound good...and one a month is a nice pace! I like the idea of WIP Wednesdays too...I'm a bit nosey so love seeing what people are working on!
