This is a first for WIP Wednesday - I am actually sewing at the moment! For the first time since Christmas! At first I worked on a few snowball blocks for a quilt. I think I have done about 32 of the required 40 blocks.
The simple repetitive sewing gave me the taste for something a little more complex. So I bit the bullet and cut out Butterick 4443, modified with a self-drafted half-circle skirt. I'm using a grey wool/poly blend from Abakhan with a bemberg lining from MacCulloch and Wallis. The lining cost more than the fashion fabric, but so far I think it was worth it. It is my first time using this type of lining and I think I am converted, it feels lovely and has a great drape.
Ooh I really love that pattern I love your choice of fabric its going to look wonderful, a great autumn/winter dress and very Mad Men!!!
ReplyDeletelovely pattern - can't wait to see how it turns out.
ReplyDeleteI previously have bought bemberg lining from http://www.huttimports.co.uk/fine-fabrics-c-78.html?osCsid=0kqdedl2fmuq0pthide5au9771 - cheaper than M&W, but fewer colours. I found it nearly impossible to work with! Any tips for pinning/cutting? x
Good for you! Can't wait to see the skirt finished and what your quilt looks like put together.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it always feel to be sewing after a hiatus? :) I really like your fabric choices. This quilt is going to be beautiful!
